ABC News Producer 'Maria Dorfner' Fights Fake News In Health Through Her Blog
During a recent trip visiting my parents, my father shared a secret food he has been eating every morning for a number of years in which I have known nothing about. My mother whips it up for him before he leaves for work - blending a cup of cottage cheese with flaxseed oil, a pinch of sugar and another of cinnamon.
They both swear by this concoction, which my mom learned about from a well-known German physician. It is suppose to fight cancer and more. It, actually, tastes pretty good and I have added it into my regular diet as well. Unfortunately, it arrives to my dish remiss of the fifty-five years of blissfully wedded hands making it for me so mine may not be as effective! I will let you know.
Seriously, though, flaxseed oil, alone, is very good for you -- containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, which help to reduce inflammation in the body. I read up on it for the obvious reasons but also because I have always been devoted to caring for my body and overall health. There are so many fallacies out there regarding health, cures, diets, and more that to do anything less would be both harmful and irresponsible.
This is the reason I love what Maria Dorfner is doing through her blog NewsMD: What’s Hot in Health. This award-winning television producer and thirty-three year veteran journalist specializing in health is helping to set the record straight regarding our nation’s health at both Good Morning America (ABC News) and through her incredibly intelligent, informative, and entertaining blog. She overturns the ruses and uncovers the hidden gems and beneficial facts attributed to living the “healthiest” life possible and she does so through “easy to read and understand” posts.
You can’t learn too much about your health, folks. As such, reading Maria Dorfner’s interview, below, is a step in the right direction towards maintaining or improving yours.

Explain what compelled you to begin blogging.
Blogging is a natural extension of what I do professionally. When I write for broadcast, there isn't enough time to tell the whole story OR to tell the story at all due to breaking news, which takes precedence over health. My blog allows me to tell the whole story with no time limitations.
Share with us the primary focus of your blog and what you hope to accomplish through it.
The primary focus of my blog is to raise readers' awareness about health and wellness. There are certainly a lot of health blogs out there, but my unique background enables me to be a trusted resource for consumers. 'Fake news' happens in health as well. That's dangerous. So, I'm here to make sure people get the whole story. Health is too valuable to be misinformed. Further, it's an area where you have to ask if someone profits from providing you with certain information. I don't get paid to blog. It's a labor of love.
Share any awards.
A partial list of awards I’ve won, include a Media Recognition Award, American Heart Association Medical Reporting Scholarship, American Medical Association Outstanding Achievement Award, March of Dimes Freddie Award for Excellence in Medical Reporting,Outstanding Leadership Abilities Award (Pace University) and Women in Corporate America.
Are you a Brand Ambassador and if so, for which companies?
I'm a Brand Ambassador for Carlsbad Alkaline Water because I love the product.
Which social media outlet works best for your public relations/marketing efforts?
My own blog at NewsMD: What's Hot in Health.
Share a social cause dear to your heart.
A cause dear to my heart is the one I'm most involved in which is raising awareness about healthy living in order to prevent illness.
When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
I'd like to be remembered as someone who was kind, helped others and left the world a little healthier than she found it.
I’m going to get to work on asking Maria Dorfner to explain the story behind the cottage cheese-flaxseed oil concoction my parents now have me eating, including the name of the German physician who came up with it. That’s a post I want to read, given I am now ingesting it in bowl fulls daily. I can tell you that it is helping to control my eczema. I know. I know. TMI. Ee gads!!!
